Happenin's

Well, I'm in my next round of classes....actually my last one for the year! YAY! Today was my first A&P exam and did pretty well! Being that I have a background from MT school I wasn't too worried about it, but come Thursday it will be my first practical which will be much more difficult with knowing the details of the muscles (origin, insertion, action, nerve), and the bones (bone markings, etc.). Also next Friday, I have my first O-Chem II exam which I am no where near ready for yet! I have a ton of studying to get done in a week, so hopefully I can use my time wisely!

This evening I signed up for the Indy Mini Marathon, May 2, 2009! This will be my third half marathon, and my third city too! A very good friend of mine will be running his first half marathon so it will be extra fun! As an added bonus some of my family lives in Indy so I'll be able to see them too! Thankfully all of this actually falls in a break in my classes, so I don't have to worry about missing any classes or anything!

Along with my kettlebell challenge, I'm also working on drinking 64 ounces of water each day. This really isn't all that much, but sometimes it seems more difficult than it should be! So far I've been doing pretty good though...I think I have about 5 days that I've had 64 or more ounces so I'm pretty happy with that, although I hope that happens more often and with even more water! Well for now...

Beautiful words...

Dave Barnes is one of my favorite artists, for those of you who know me, this is pretty obvious! Anyway, on my drive to/from school and else where I've been listening to a plethora of music and came across a song that I just love and thought I'd share it with you...it's possible I already have, but it deserves another post! It's called "When a Heart Breaks" and the words are amazing, I highly recommend listening to it but for now here's the lyrics...

No one ever told me
It would come to this
What began with such a promise
Would end with such a twist

I lean into the whisper
But I don't hear a thing

It's a tear in the dark
All alone in the car
In pieces, in pieces
It's the sound of mistake
As I lie here awake
Sleepless, sleepless

This is the sound that made
When a heart breaks

Everybody's laughing
Maybe that's just me
Does something unrequited
Mean it will never be

I lean into the whisper
But I don't hear a thing

It's a tear in the dark
All alone in the car
In pieces, in pieces
It's the sound of mistake
As I lie here awake
Sleepless, sleepless

This is the sound that made
When a heart breaks

Please don't leave me here

Life, for now, I've come to fear
You've dropped me off and left me here
With nothing here to find my way
But the lights you take as you pull away

Far ahead the brush is moving
There's others here and good is proving
Nothing's wrong, it's in my mind
Nothing's wrong and I'll be find

It's a tear in the dark
All alone in the car
In pieces, in pieces
It's the sound of mistake
As I lie here awake
Sleepless, sleepless
Over and out...

Challenge: Day 5

Five days of swinging my kettlebell 200 times...I am sore! My hamstrings are unbelievably sore, but at the same time I feel GREAT! I've also been doing some extra arm stuff because I don't feel like my upper body is getting as much of a workout as my trunk and lower body with the swing challenge. From completing the swings the past five days I think I can get in the 200 swings within about 5 minutes, which means that I don't have to get up much earlier to accomplish the workout before I have to leave for school! This is a very wonderful thing because getting up before 5:30 I really would not like to do unless I absolutely have too! Although once the gym at school opens up (January!?) I think I may work out after class some depending on my schedule. I want to get back to running but that unfortunately hasn't happened lately. I need to figure out when and where some half marathon races are for the spring/summer. Then hopefully in the fall I can run my first full marathon, however I'll be in the middle of Bio Chem 2, so I'm not sure if it will happen in 2009...so maybe 2010!? Well I'm off for now...

Challenge: Day 2

Well, I'm not as sore as I thought I would be, so that's good! Although, I've already finished my 200 swings for today so I have a good feeling that I'm going to feel that burn pretty well in the very near future. From sitting here typing, I'm already starting to feel it in my hamstrings. I'm supposed to go for a walk later this evening, but it might end up being rather short if my legs are feeling like jell-o!

Right now classes are going pretty well. First exams for these classes are in the next week/week and a half, so I'll be studying up on everything this weekend (which is a four day weekend!). It's been pretty good so far in my anatomy & physiology class, mainly because it's been a lot of review for me. Health science terminology isn't too terrible, but our professor has a very distinct accent, so it makes it a little hard to understand, and even harder to pay attention. Thankfully though, HSCI is only one day a week, and only about an hour and a half. O-Chem II...is CRAZY! There is a ton of information, and also a ton of drama that seems to be very apparent in our class. I guess you never get too old for high school drama! Well, for now...

Challenge...care to join!?

So I started on a new challenge, which I'm sure is going to kick my butt, however it's also going to whip me in shape too! (I follow a kettlebell blog and found this challenge here!) It's the Kettlebell 200 swing challenge and it shouldn't be taken lightly at all! Today was the first day of it and my body is killing me already, but it's a good thing. So the challenge goes as follows: Every day for a month (or more if you can handle it) do 200 swings. Simple, to the poiint, and yeah it's killer! **If you don't have a kettlebell, I highly recommend getting one. However, if you want to do this challenge with a dumb bell, which will work okay.** If you're up for the challenge, let me know how it's going for you!

I did some extra upper body sets as well, but nothing too much, I don't want to over exert myself. I'm thinking going up and down the stairs tomorrow will be a bit painful! I'll post every now and then on how the challenge is going. I'm sure there will be days (many in fact) that are going to be difficult to get in the full 200, but I'm going to press hard to do this challenge and get back on track with my training. Well, for now I have to get back to some studying!

Spin on hot cocoa!

So recently I decided to make some hot chocolate, because it's getting a little cooler out and hot cocoa is always good in those chilly days! Anyway, rather than just making the usual hot cocoa, I decided to give it a bit of a spin. After making my hot cocoa, as suggested on the package, I added about a teaspoon full of vanilla flavoring (the kind you would use for making cookies), and WOW! It is so amazing! I've always been a fan of a vanilla-mocha cappicino, so it doesn't surprise me that I'd like this. I highly suggest trying it out...and then, let me know what you think! I've also made a mocha coffee drink with the suggested amount of cocoa mix, then rather than adding hot water, adding coffee instead, and then of course, adding vanilla would make it an even more spectacular treat! Alrighty, well enjoy the left over halloween candy, and the beautiful fall!
