Ah...good noise!

Okay, so being that I'm in the middle of finals week I've been studying a ton. When I study I need to have some noise, but nothing that has words because then I go off on that track, and it's hard to get back to what I should be doing. Well, I had been using different clasical music, and some music that I use when I give massages, which is very relaxing and such. However, even that music was actually getting to be...too predictable?...and I'd start humming along in my head, or just not paying as much attention as I should when I'm studying. So I googled "white noise", and found this website, simplynoise.com, it's awesome! They have white noise, pink noise, and brown noise...I didn't even know other colors of noise existed! So I have been studying to these noises instead, and wow, it really makes a huge difference! I highly recommend checking it out, esp. if you're in need of something to help with studying! Speaking of...I better get back to that!

Fighting the cold season...

It's been a while since I posted last, but I've been a bit busy with exams and papers on my plate. This past weekend I was studying for my OChem exam, which was incredibly boring, but I got through a lot more than what I was expecting. Sunday evening I was starting to feel a little under the weather which was not cool at all because my test was Monday which meant that I was going to take my exam not feeling well. So Monday I take the test, and then headed to the gym for a bit of a workout. However because I was feeling so lousy I only did a short workout before ending it. I decided to try and get this cold out of here before it really gets a good hold, so I went to the store to pick up some Ester-C, Alka-Seltzer Plus (Day & Night), and orange juice. I drank all of the 64 ounces of OJ within a matter of a couple hours, and took the Ester-C, and Alka-Seltzer Plus (daytime) and in a matter of a couple hours was feeling much better! I also went to bed incredibly early...I was actually in bed by 9:00pm, and was asleep shortly after and slept for about 12 hours! I'm sure part of that was due to the fact that I had taken the night time dose of the Alka-Seltzer Plus a couple hours prior. Anyway, I'm feeling tons better today, and thankfully didn't have to go anywhere today so I was able to rest up, and take care of myself a little more than usual. Finals are coming up so I doubt I'll post much, if at all until after I head home for break, so have a nice week or so!

Not here please!

Okay, so today I was sitting in the lunch room at school, eating lunch, and just relaxing a little before my next class. Anyway, so as I was sitting there talking with a classmate of mine I hear a noise...a very distinct noise. Some one was cutting their finger nails! UGH!!! Okay, this must be one of my biggest pet peeves because seriously it drives me nuts! I'm all about people trimming their nails, but PLEASE don't do it in public, and especially not in a place where people eat! Go to the bathroom and do that...or hey, do it at home! Okay, I just had to get that out there! Thanks!

Happy birthday Heidi!!!

Happy birthday Heidi!!!
So today is my sister's 28th* (plus a couple extra years...hehe) birthday!
I was able to go home this past week and surprise her which was great!
We were able to hang out some which was really wonderful!
Anyway, so Stinky...Happy birthday! You're amazing in so many ways, and it's been so awesome getting to hang out with you more often! I love you!!!
Love you,
Stinky!

A few updates...

So I know it's been a while, but I've been rather busy lately. So I'll go through some highlights from the past couple weeks or so.

  • I surprised a bunch of people for Thanksgiving! (I wasn't planning on actually going home, and at the last minute decided to make the long, but wonderful trip home!)
  • I was able to hang out with my nephew for a while which was great because it's only a few times a year that I get to see him. He's getting so big!!! Love that boy!
  • I went ice skating with my sister, nephew, and a couple of my cousins...it was a blast!
  • I made brunch for a few friends and was able to catch up and laugh...so great!
  • One night when it was only going to be my mom and I at home for most of the evening we played Rummikub! I miss playing games with my parents so much! Hopefully we'll play lots of them when I'm home next!
  • My family from Indy came up, which was so wonderful to see them! I hadn't seen them since I left to come out to school in June...Lots has changed since then...more to come as well!
  • It seems like I hadn't been home in forever, and now I'll be out there again in just a few weeks! YAY!!!
  • On my way home there were accidents everywhere because of the black ice, blowing snow, and terrible wind...thankfully I've driven in that stuff enough to know to just slow down and keep lots of space, but it wasn't fun!

Hopefully Thanksgiving was as wonderful for you as it was for me! Until next time...

Happenin's

Well, I'm in my next round of classes....actually my last one for the year! YAY! Today was my first A&P exam and did pretty well! Being that I have a background from MT school I wasn't too worried about it, but come Thursday it will be my first practical which will be much more difficult with knowing the details of the muscles (origin, insertion, action, nerve), and the bones (bone markings, etc.). Also next Friday, I have my first O-Chem II exam which I am no where near ready for yet! I have a ton of studying to get done in a week, so hopefully I can use my time wisely!

This evening I signed up for the Indy Mini Marathon, May 2, 2009! This will be my third half marathon, and my third city too! A very good friend of mine will be running his first half marathon so it will be extra fun! As an added bonus some of my family lives in Indy so I'll be able to see them too! Thankfully all of this actually falls in a break in my classes, so I don't have to worry about missing any classes or anything!

Along with my kettlebell challenge, I'm also working on drinking 64 ounces of water each day. This really isn't all that much, but sometimes it seems more difficult than it should be! So far I've been doing pretty good though...I think I have about 5 days that I've had 64 or more ounces so I'm pretty happy with that, although I hope that happens more often and with even more water! Well for now...

Beautiful words...

Dave Barnes is one of my favorite artists, for those of you who know me, this is pretty obvious! Anyway, on my drive to/from school and else where I've been listening to a plethora of music and came across a song that I just love and thought I'd share it with you...it's possible I already have, but it deserves another post! It's called "When a Heart Breaks" and the words are amazing, I highly recommend listening to it but for now here's the lyrics...

No one ever told me
It would come to this
What began with such a promise
Would end with such a twist

I lean into the whisper
But I don't hear a thing

It's a tear in the dark
All alone in the car
In pieces, in pieces
It's the sound of mistake
As I lie here awake
Sleepless, sleepless

This is the sound that made
When a heart breaks

Everybody's laughing
Maybe that's just me
Does something unrequited
Mean it will never be

I lean into the whisper
But I don't hear a thing

It's a tear in the dark
All alone in the car
In pieces, in pieces
It's the sound of mistake
As I lie here awake
Sleepless, sleepless

This is the sound that made
When a heart breaks

Please don't leave me here

Life, for now, I've come to fear
You've dropped me off and left me here
With nothing here to find my way
But the lights you take as you pull away

Far ahead the brush is moving
There's others here and good is proving
Nothing's wrong, it's in my mind
Nothing's wrong and I'll be find

It's a tear in the dark
All alone in the car
In pieces, in pieces
It's the sound of mistake
As I lie here awake
Sleepless, sleepless

Challenge: Day 5

Five days of swinging my kettlebell 200 times...I am sore! My hamstrings are unbelievably sore, but at the same time I feel GREAT! I've also been doing some extra arm stuff because I don't feel like my upper body is getting as much of a workout as my trunk and lower body with the swing challenge. From completing the swings the past five days I think I can get in the 200 swings within about 5 minutes, which means that I don't have to get up much earlier to accomplish the workout before I have to leave for school! This is a very wonderful thing because getting up before 5:30 I really would not like to do unless I absolutely have too! Although once the gym at school opens up (January!?) I think I may work out after class some depending on my schedule. I want to get back to running but that unfortunately hasn't happened lately. I need to figure out when and where some half marathon races are for the spring/summer. Then hopefully in the fall I can run my first full marathon, however I'll be in the middle of Bio Chem 2, so I'm not sure if it will happen in 2009...so maybe 2010!? Well I'm off for now...

Challenge: Day 2

Well, I'm not as sore as I thought I would be, so that's good! Although, I've already finished my 200 swings for today so I have a good feeling that I'm going to feel that burn pretty well in the very near future. From sitting here typing, I'm already starting to feel it in my hamstrings. I'm supposed to go for a walk later this evening, but it might end up being rather short if my legs are feeling like jell-o!

Right now classes are going pretty well. First exams for these classes are in the next week/week and a half, so I'll be studying up on everything this weekend (which is a four day weekend!). It's been pretty good so far in my anatomy & physiology class, mainly because it's been a lot of review for me. Health science terminology isn't too terrible, but our professor has a very distinct accent, so it makes it a little hard to understand, and even harder to pay attention. Thankfully though, HSCI is only one day a week, and only about an hour and a half. O-Chem II...is CRAZY! There is a ton of information, and also a ton of drama that seems to be very apparent in our class. I guess you never get too old for high school drama! Well, for now...

Challenge...care to join!?

So I started on a new challenge, which I'm sure is going to kick my butt, however it's also going to whip me in shape too! (I follow a kettlebell blog and found this challenge here!) It's the Kettlebell 200 swing challenge and it shouldn't be taken lightly at all! Today was the first day of it and my body is killing me already, but it's a good thing. So the challenge goes as follows: Every day for a month (or more if you can handle it) do 200 swings. Simple, to the poiint, and yeah it's killer! **If you don't have a kettlebell, I highly recommend getting one. However, if you want to do this challenge with a dumb bell, which will work okay.** If you're up for the challenge, let me know how it's going for you!

I did some extra upper body sets as well, but nothing too much, I don't want to over exert myself. I'm thinking going up and down the stairs tomorrow will be a bit painful! I'll post every now and then on how the challenge is going. I'm sure there will be days (many in fact) that are going to be difficult to get in the full 200, but I'm going to press hard to do this challenge and get back on track with my training. Well, for now I have to get back to some studying!

Spin on hot cocoa!

So recently I decided to make some hot chocolate, because it's getting a little cooler out and hot cocoa is always good in those chilly days! Anyway, rather than just making the usual hot cocoa, I decided to give it a bit of a spin. After making my hot cocoa, as suggested on the package, I added about a teaspoon full of vanilla flavoring (the kind you would use for making cookies), and WOW! It is so amazing! I've always been a fan of a vanilla-mocha cappicino, so it doesn't surprise me that I'd like this. I highly suggest trying it out...and then, let me know what you think! I've also made a mocha coffee drink with the suggested amount of cocoa mix, then rather than adding hot water, adding coffee instead, and then of course, adding vanilla would make it an even more spectacular treat! Alrighty, well enjoy the left over halloween candy, and the beautiful fall!

Great movie!

So this evening I watched Spirit of the Marathon, and it was amazing! Granted if you're a runner, especially a marathoner (or future marathoner!!!), you'll appreciate it on a different level. It was such a great description of how you go through these huge highs and lows not only during the race, but also throughout training and really even life for that matter. As I was watching it I kept thinking, I should be training for my marathon, I really should be running right now. I was so pumped up, and decided that even though it won't be easy to add in a space for running, I really need to do that again and get back into a routine. Not sure when exactly I'm planning on running a marathon, but I figure that I'll at least get back into shape and go from there. We'll see if there are any good races around the area, and maybe I'll put a little added interest in it.

Tomorrow I start another round of classes, so back to getting up early, and learning about all kinds of things. Hopefully tomorrow morning will come easier than I expect, but I have a feeling after being able to sleep in until 8 am for the past several days it isn't going to be fun! Well, for now...

Grades & Ramblings!

Well, I got my grades back, and all is good! I passed my three classes with 2 A's and a B, so now on to my next classes. No real time to actually relax much. Classes start on Wednesday, but I really should start looking through notes for A&P. I won't get through much, but I figure some is better than none at all! I'm feeling a little under the weather so I'm taking is easy today, and have some throat lozenges already to go because it doesn't seem like it will take much longer before I'll need them. Hopefully I can get ride of this before it really kicks me hard.

Nothing much beyond studying and classes are consuming my life as of late. My next break is Thanksgiving, which will only be a couple days, so I won't be able to travel home. After that though, I'll have my Christmas break, which I'll have a couple weeks off so I'll be home for a little bit at least! Alrighty, well I feel like I'm rambling on...maybe it's time to try and take a nap! Over and out!

Finished with finals...for now...

Today was my last final for this round of classes and I couldn't be more excited that it's over with...yes I know more is just around the corner but I'm going to enjoy this little break! So as of right now I don't have to study, at least for a little while! I won't get my grades until early next week, but I know I passed all my classes with good grades (A's or B's). Next on the agenda...lots of sleep, relaxing, maybe work on my art piece a little more, etc. Next Wednesday I start my next round of classes which will consist of Organic Chemistry II, Anatomy & Physiology, and Health Science Terminology. I feel like this will be a little bit of a lighter load than this previous one, but will still challenge me in ways that I don't even know of yet.

Somehow in the last couple weeks despite all of the studying, I managed to start and finish a book, and I don't mean a text book, but one of my own choosing! It was a really great book, and short which was kind of nice too. I highly recommend you check it out too! It's called 200 Pomegranets and an Audiance of One by Shawn Wood. I also decided to treat myself to some new music from Trace Bundy because it's awesome music, especially to study too, plus he just came out with a new CD! Check out Missle Bell you'll enjoy it!

Okay, well until next time...

Tea & "Kah"!?

So the time here is 12:40 am Thursday morning, and I'm still up. This after a long night of studying mixed with a pumpkin spice latte from starbucks, and multiple glasses of crazy strong tea....or as my study partner said, "Jet fuel tea!" Pretty much the truth though! We are pretty much done studying at this point but now with all the caffine running through my veins sleep surely isn't going to happen anytime in the near future. I think I may be up reading for a while hoping to relax my mind enough to where I can get some sleep before my final in O-Chem.

On a different note, I now have a new name...no not literally but my friend's daughter, who is about 18 months old, calls me, "Kah". A little strange I know, but I'm pretty sure this is because the first night that I was hanging out with her I was drawing cars on her little drawing board and she wanted me to keep drawing them, and kept saying "car" which sounds more like "kah", and so became my name. It's hilarious though because we'll say, who's "...." and she would say their name, or at least what she has named them. Then we'll get to me, and she'll literally almost whisper, "Kah".

That's really all that's been happening lately, I'll update after finals on how things went. Until next time....

A short update...

Okay, so this is going to be rather short because this week is crazy busy and I probably shouldn't take much time out from studying right now. This week is finals week and from the looks of it they aren't going to be a cake walk. I already have one out of the way, and did okay. Had I actually put some time and effort into some studying I could have pulled a better grade, but I knew I'd do fine, so all my studying has gone into chemistry. I've got a final Wednesday morning and my last one Thursday morning. Thankfully I'll have Friday off, which means I'll be sleeping in! A few of my friends and I were talking about going camping this weekend, but I'm not sure if that's going to happen anymore because it's supposed to be in the mid-upper 30's, with a chance of snow as well! Now I wouldn't mind it too much, but we would have a sweet little 18 month old with us and that just wouldn't be so great. So camping now might have to wait until next spring/summer. Well, I need to get going....

Naps...

Lately I've been taking naps on a some what regular basis, and by that, I mean I've taken a couple naps within the last couple weeks. It's been pretty amazing, the only unfortunate thing is that some of these days have been out of necessity either because of the huge lack of sleep from the night before, or from having a headache. At this point I'm not sure if these naps are beneficial or not yet, but at least after I get a nap, I do feel better.

Today was one of those days. I woke up and had a bit of a headache, which I think part of it had to do with the weather, however I'm sure that wasn't all of it. Anyway, so classes went on as usual, but after getting through my first class, and half of my second class, I had already made the decision that I wasn't going to my third class. So after getting home from class, I was able to finally take a nap, although it did take a while to get to sleep. Thankfully when I woke up, my headache had subsided quite a bit.

**Side note** Finals are next week, so I'll be busy studying and trying to get through all the problems in my books. Right now it looks like my finals will be on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday...so be praying please!

Short and sweet....

So lately I've been hanging out over at a friends from school a ton lately...I mean it's on a pretty rare occasion that I see Val nowadays, although she's busy as well. Now the unfortunate thing is that we aren't just hanging out, mostly we're studying chemistry. Although, we're doing really well in our classes, so that's awesome! It's been really wonderful hanging out with her, and her family...I feel like I'm part of the family too, and it's great! We actually are planning on going on a camping trip in a couple weeks! I don't know how rustic this camping trip will be, but just being out in the open will be amazing! Okay, well I know this is short, but I'm about to fall asleep from the lack of sleep that I've been getting, and the huge amount of studying....so...

It's been a whirlwind kind of week!

I thought being that I had the day off from school that I would post an update. The past week I had two exams which were pretty tough, but came out on the other side just fine. In preparation for the exams I went over to a friend's house to get in a few major study sessions. I ended up pulling a few really late nights and very early mornings, but it seems like it paid off! The weekend before plus the two days before the last test I think I ended up studying about 36 hours and only about 12+ hours of sleep! I really don't know how I was even functioning most of the days! It's been great hanging out with my friends from school though, even if much of the time has to do with school. It's so crazy how much I have in common with one of my friends...although it makes things kind of nice because we don't have to explain much to each other. Today we went shopping at the Legends, trying to get shirts and such for when we're in the DC program being that we are both all about t-shirts and jeans! We had a ton of fun, and even stopped by school and had some lunch (and it was free for homecoming!). Anyway, so all is good here...

The TRUTH about high fructose corn syrup (HFCS)

Okay, so lately you might have noticed commercials addressing high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) that are provided by the Corn Refiners Association. These ads say that HFCS isn't bad for you, and it's just like sugar only made from corn. They are running this little stunt as a PR campaign because many people are actually avoiding products with HFCS because of the dangers that are associated with it. Check out this site to get more details and make your own decision.

This PR campaign, isn't about health issues, it's about revenue...keep that in mind the next time you see one of their ridiculous commercials...

0503 to 0535 - shower, get dressed, pack my lunch, etc.
0543 - leave for school

1320 - finish class an hour early! head back to the cafeteria to finish lab report
1430 - decide to check and see if grades are posted for Chem II exam...84% class average 73% so I'm pretty excited! (O-Chem grades wont be posted until Monday! UGH!)
1515 - finish lab report, but have to wait for our 3rd lab partner to stop by before taking off
1516 - check email and see that I have a check to pick up at school! YAY!
1517 - pick up check at school...totally having a great, but very long, day!
1600 - 3rd lab partner stops by, then finally I head home!
1635 - arrive home after a very long day, and start to figure out dinner
1730 - make a huge taco salad
1900 - go with Val (my roomie!) to take recycling to a drop off center
1945 - finally find the place, but it's already closed...poo stinky!
2010 - back home, and exhausted!
2015 - figure out what all needs to go to school with me tomorrow, get that packed up
2030 - get ready for bed
2100 - finally get in bed, read for a while, recieve a text from a friend...too tired to text back
2200 - sleeping finally!

Talk about a long day! Anyway, so since then I've had my bio test, 93% with the class average 75% if I remember correctly, so pretty happy with the grade. This weekend I'll be studying concepts from O-Chem & Chem II from Friday; watching the Irish; church; watching the Colts and other NFL games; and doing some yard work. I stay pretty busy that's for sure! So, sorry if I haven't kept this updated, it gets put on the back burner sometimes! Okay, well there you go for now! Over and out!

Great new tunes...

So yesterday I received the new Matt Wertz cd "Under Summer Sun" and really love this song (among others) and thought I'd share the lyrics with you! Although, I really suggest you listen to the actual song because reading the lyrics just doesn't do the
song justice...
Keep Faith
By Matt Wertz

Everybody hurts
Everybody’s broken
But you gotta know
If you ever need me
I will be waiting
I...

Even when your hope is gone
Even when you’re barely holding on
If there’s anything that I’m sure of
I know that we were made for love
So if you start to break
Keep faith
Keep faith

When the days drag on
And you’re barely breathing
Searching for a light
You’ve had all along
Trust me, I’ve seen it
And if I could
Baby, make you believe it
Oh…

Even when your hope is gone
Even when you’re barely holding on
If there’s anything that I’m sure of
I know that we were made for love
So if you start to break
Keep faith

Just let yourself go
Just let yourself go
Just let yourself go
Just let yourself

If there’s anything that I’m sure of
I know that we were made for
love
So if you start to break
Oh…

Even when your hope is gone
Even when you’re barely holding on
If there’s anything that I’m sure of
I know that we were made for love
If you start to break
If you start to break
Baby, if you start to break
Keep faith

Oh…
You gotta keep faith
Oh baby

You gotta keep faith
Keep faith

Hope you enjoy! Over and out!

Powerful Quote...

“The moment we label a person or situation, we put on blinders to all evidence that contradicts our diagnosis.” - Ori & Rom Brafman

I came across this quote from a friend’s blogand felt that I should pass it along with you! I did a little more research and found that it was from the Brafman’s book SWAY: The Irresistible Pull of Irrational Behavior. I think I may have to pick up a copy and see what else I get from it. If you have read it let me know what you think!

Lo!

(Again, originally on wordpress...)

Hold that thought...

(Once again...oringinally on wordpress...)

So I thought I’d share a thought or two before I go MIA…

I’m not exactly sure why, but I’ve been thinking a lot about…well a lot of things. One of them about friends. The thing is I haven’t been thinking about my friends that I now, but friends from my past. Don’t get me wrong though, I love my friends and do think about them often as well! Anyway, so for whatever reason, I’ve been thinking about how I communicate with my friends, and vice versa. I am a card guru, and love sending random cards to my friends just because, there really doesn’t have to be a reason at all! They love receiving the cards just as much as I enjoy sending them! My friends that I have currently are good about communicating with me, either through e-mail, snail mail, etc. I unfortunately have experienced my fair share of friends that lack the know how of communicating. Now, I’m not saying that for every card one should be sent back, but a “thank you” really goes a long way. Anyway, I just thought that I would get that off my chest, and hopefully help out a few people with some relationships maybe…I don’t want to leave on a sour note though…so I want to leave this with a HUGE thank you to all of my friends who have supported me, and continue to love and support me through this next chapter of my life! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Decisions...

So after a few posts on the wordpress blog, I think I'm going to stay with blogger! I feel like it is easier for the reader. If you have other thoughts, let me know and maybe you can change my mind...although, being German, I'm very stubborn! Haha!

Movies...

(The original post is on my wordpress blog, so if you check that, sorry for the repetitiveness!)
A few weeks ago, I was on my break from school, so I have been taking in some great R&R. Anyway, so last night I watched In Her Shoes, which I’ve seen before, but it had been a while. I forgot how much I liked that movie! I stayed up watching it until early into the morning, but was actually paying attention to it, which is surprising being that it was about 2:30 in the morning before it was over! At the very end of the movie Maggie, Cameron Diaz, reads a poem by E. E. Cummings called, I Carry Your Heart with Me. I absolutely love this poem, and thought I would share it with you! So here you go!

I spy...

So on my bike ride today I came across a beautiful blue heron...
...about half a dozen deer, in all different spots of the trail...
...and almost the entire ride, I had a grass hopper literally hitching a ride on my pedal. It had to have been very dizzy from the spinning of the pedals!
Anyway, I rode about 8 miles in 37 minutes...but man I am still sore from my 12 mile ride from yesterday so the start was just about as hard as the very end of the ride. Time to rest up...

Beautiful lyrics...

This song has been on my mind a lot lately and thought I'd share it with you...
It's called Beautiful Disaster by Jon McLaughlin, and if you get a chance listen to it, because it's really a beautiful song and I think speaks to so many young women nowadays...

She loves her mama's lemonade,
Hates the sound that goodbyes make.
She prays one day she'll find someone to need her.
She swears that there's no difference,
Between the lies and compliments.
It's all the same if everybody leaves her.

And every magazine tells her she's not good enough,
The pictures that she sees make her cry.

And she would change everything, everything just ask her.
Caught in the in between, a beautiful disaster,
And she just needs someone to take her home.

She's giving boys what they want, tries to act so nonchalant,
Afraid they'll see that she's lost her direction.
She never stays the same for long,
Assuming that she'll get it wrong.
Perfect only in her imperfections.

She's not a drama queen,
She doesn't want to feel this way, only seventeen but tired

She would change everything for happy ever after.
Caught in the in between, a beautiful disaster,
But she just needs someone to take her home.

Cuz she's just the way she is, but no ones told her that's ok.

And she would change everything, everything just ask her.
Caught in the in between of beautiful disaster,

And she would change everything for happy ever after.
Caught in the in between of beautiful disaster,

But she just needs someone to take her home
And she just needs someone to take her home.

Changes...

Well, I've decided to make a change to my future classes, and eventual start date for the DC program as well. Initially I was planning on starting the DC program in Jan 2009. Which would mean that I would have an incredibly heavy load of classes until I start, as well as tacking on undergrad classes to my DC course work once I am half way through. So I thought and prayed about my options for a while and came up with my decision to start the DC program in May 2009, and spread out the undergrad classes I still need to take. Being that all of these are science classes, it's best that I don't have to overload my schedule. This doesn't mean that I'll have light courses, but it's better than it would have been at least!

A crazy but great weekend...

So on my flight home I sat next to a Colonel in the Army of 27 years! We talked the entire time we were on the plane and had some of the most amazing conversations I've had in a while (with a perfect stranger of course!). On my next leg of the trip I was sitting at the gate waiting for the flight and a guy sits next to me and asks about Notre Dame because of the shirt I was wearing. Anyway, so I shortly after learned that he was from China and this was his first time over to the US. What was even more amazing is that I was the first person to actually talk to him from the US, which was really cool. He was on his way to start the MBA program at Notre Dame so once we made it to our final destination we talked a little longer and help him on his way.

The weekend was great, and the wedding was so beautiful! It was one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever experienced. Literally everyone was so happy for the new coulple, I think everyone was ear to ear with smiles the entire time. The only unfortunate thing is that my flight was scheduled for that evening and we had to drive 2 hours to the airport to catch a direct flight.

Anyway, so we leave with plenty of time and then off on the road we went...So we were on the way and then...a HUGE traffic jam. My flight was scheduled to leave at 9:55pm and it was really starting to get tight. As the time passed and the miles did not, I really was getting worried that I wouldn't make the flight. I called a friend of mine and had her check the status of my flight...DELAYED!!! until 10:25pm. So things are looking like I'll be able to make it, but just barely. So we end up getting to the airport and I run in and check my bag and get my ticket. However when I was checking in, I realized that I only had my student ID, and not my license, which was still in my mom's purse from the wedding! So I called my parents and had them swing back around and drop it off to me.

I ran out to the car, grabbed my license and then ran to the security check point. I already had my shoes untied and ready to go, so I put my stuff on the belt and walked through, all good. I collected my belongings, and started to sprint, yes I literally was sprinting, and I hadn't even put my shoes back on! So I have my back pack on, bag over my shoulder, holding my shoes running for my gate. I get there and find out that the plane still hasn't even arrived yet for us to board. So this gave me time to put my shoes on and get a drink of water and call my parents to let them know that I made the flight.

So the flight finally take off around 10:40pm, and all is good. We land and I wait for my luggage...and wait, and wait, and nothing! So I go to the baggage claim area to try and figure out where my luggage might be. They said that because it was a late check that it probably didn't make the plane and that it will be on the first flight tomorrow and that I can pick it up tomorrow afternoon. Today I call and check to make sure that it was indeed there, and then drove to the airport to pick up my belongings. All is good now!

Perspectives...

So I know it's been a while since I posted anything here, but I've been a little busy with moving, and school, etc. Anyway, things are going pretty well, but it's so much more than I could have imagined, or really even prepared myself for. I've been absolutely amazed in so many different areas of my life, and have already learned so much. One of those areas is that I need to re-assess my priorities (move studying way up for one thing!), as well as taking a look, and possibly moving in my rumble strips and guard rails. I need to pay more attention of how close I get to the edge, or now, to these preliminary cautions, and actually do something when I see/hear these warning signs.

On a different note, I have been working out a bunch which has been a great way to keep me focused as well as keep me on a set schedule too! Plus as an added bonus I'm getting back in shape, and I love being toned up and ready to race at a moments notice. I actually might run a half marathon this Oct., but much of that will depend on how studying goes. Okay, well that's all for now...

Whirlwind experience....

Hey all...

Well I'm back in KC after about six months of being home. It was wonderful being home, but it's wonderful being back in KC too. I had a wonderful farewell party that many of my friends/family were able to come to and send their best with me. This past Wednesday I made my first leg of the trip to Indy to visit with a friend and hang out with some of my family too. Thursday I hung out with my two cousins, playing some tennis and then heading out on the road again to finish my drive. It was great hanging out with my cousins as is always the case! The drive was uneventful which is always a good thing! I got to my new place and unpacked my car and have been relaxing as much as I can before the next chapter of my life begins.

Last evening (Friday) I received a call from my mom filling me in with some unsettling news about my cousin (who I had just left on Thursday) that she has a tumor located in her cerebellum. She will have surgery Sunday morning to remove the tumor, and the prognosis looks very good. Please keep her and the rest of her family in her prayers.

Okay well time to relax for a little while longer...

Marathon...more than words..

This past weekend I had the wonderful privilege of watching/cheering on my friend Stephen as he ran his first full marathon in Traverse City, MI. The day was perfect and I was ready to watch something amazing that day. Now for many of you who know me, I'm not the emotional one, so what is about to follow may come as a bit of a shock. I was able to watch runners from all ages, and I do mean all. There were many men and women that were running the marathon who were easily in their 60's and even 70's and could have kicked my butt without even trying! It was great to see their determination and youthfulness when they passed by the spectators. After waiting at mile 20 to watch my friend pass by and cheer him on (only 6.2 miles to go!), we moved on to the finish where something beyond words was about to take place. For anyone who has run many races (especially longer distances) you know what it is when your legs literally are cramping up and you can't seem to stand or even walk on them anymore. This happened a few times when runners were finishing their last 300yds on the track to the finish line. When this was happening, other runners who had already finished their races went over, picked them up and helped them to walk in the rest of the way.
That is moving enough, but then this one lady made the turn in on to the track and you could literally see her legs cramping up, it was awful to watch. You could tell just how painful it was, not only physically, but emotionally knowing just how close you are to finishing. Anyway, so another lady who was just behind her, who HADN'T finished yet, stops, turns back, and starts to pick her up to walk with her! No granted it's not like she was going to win the race, but still to stop your race to help someone else is a beautiful thing to watch. After a couple minutes, a few runners who had finished came over to offer support, so the other lady could finish her race. When I saw this I literally started to cry, I couldn't believe how beautiful that picture was, and that it wasn't just a picture, but that I had actually seen it take place. I'm sure this has happened in the many races that I've run, but I haven't seen it because I was running myself, and apparently in my own trance!
Anyway, I was trying my best to hold it together when my friend came around the corner, so I could cheer him one a little bit further. When he had finished and came over to where I was standing (literally about a minute after he had finished) I had told him a quick "Congrats" before I wasn't able to say much more because I was choking back tears. I hadn't expected to be so emotional because it wasn't even my race, but boy was I! That's the best I can explain the beautiful event, which in my mind doesn't really even compare to how it really happened. If you get the chance to watch a race in person, especially the end, do it, you'll be glad you did. So one more "Congrats!" for my friend!

Believe...

So the last week has been incredibly difficult, but my friends have stepped up and comforted me in this time, as well as a song by Dave Barnes that I feel like is my anthem. Last night I went to a Barnes concert, which was amazing, and he even sang this song! If you get a chance to listen to it, you should, it's a great song. Here you go...

Believe by Dave Barnes
It's true what they say, the devil's alive and well;
He picked the locks and escaped the gates of hell.
It's evidence for all you feel right now;
If I could beg, I'd beg that you'd somehow,
Believe, believe.
Chances are four could turn to three;
That's one less than suppose to be.
A wounded heart is sucker for a thrill;
And healing now, I hope you still,
Believe, believe.
The difference between now and then;
Has broken your heart like porcelain.
There's hope in this that you will soon see if you only,
Believe, believe.
It's true what they say, the devil's alive and well;
But there's something else working here as well.

Waahoo...

So I know it's been quite some time since I've posted anything, and thought I should update this a little bit. Plus I have some fun stuff to share!

This past Thursday, I finally made it official... May 6th, I'm going skydiving! I'm jumping with skydivechicago.com and seriously can't wait! I'm so pumped! Just over two weeks away before I take the big plunge! I'm having it video taped and pictures taken, which I'll be posting as soon as I can. My parents are going to go with me, although not up in the plane, just the drive. Still, it will be a blast to have them there with me on this huge event!

Friday, I was cleaning up the house and such, getting it ready for Melissa to come visit when my dad calls me from work. He lets me know that some of the roadees want a massage therapist to come down for a few hours, and if I can, to get down there soon. So I pack up my car with my table, sheets, etc. and head down to the theatre to set things up. By the time all was said and done, I had given three full body massages, and one 20 minute back massage. All and all, it worked out well for me! It's nice having a part time job that is that flexible, and pays well too!

Within the last week, I also signed up for the 25th running of the Sunburst races here in SB. This time around, I'm only running a 5k, and am not going to be racing, just running this one. It's the same day as one of my friend's wedding, so I can't push myself too hard because, hello, there will be dancing later that night! I'll be running the 5k with a good friend of mine, so it will be tons of fun, plus I just might break out into dance while running, as has been known to happen before! Okay well that's really all for now...until next time...

It finally arrived!!!

So many people know that I'm a Dave Barnes fanatic, yes, more than a fan, a fanatic! Anyway, so I pre-ordered his new cd Me&You&The World, and it arrived yesterday!!! Now because I'm such a fan, I not only bought the cd, but also the making of the cd, and the new shirt that, well it rocks too! The new cd isn't released until April 1st, and should be on iTunes so do yourself a favor and check it out! He is one of the up and coming singer/song writers and is going to really make his mark in the music industry. You can click on the image on the right and purchase the cd today! Also, if you have the opportunity to see Barnes live, DO IT! He is amazing live, with this hilarious wit and personality you'll hope that the show never ends! Hope to see you at a show soon!

A few things...

When I was in KC for my spring break I went to the store to buy some coffee. No big deal, but I had an amazing encounter. While I was standing there grinding some coffee, an older gentleman walked in the isle near me and struck up a conversation. We ended up talking for about five minutes! It really was amazing! I think we brightened each other's day!

This past weekend I got a HUGE surprise! (Well, actually she's quite small!) Anyway, a very good friend of mine flew in town and surprised me (and a few others I'm sure!)! It was so awesome! I was in complete shock! I'm talking jaw to the floor, and totally going nuts! It was quite a scene I'm sure!

One last thing....Check this out! I'm on the Cleveland Chiropractic College website! YAY!!!

Procrastinating no longer...

So it's the day before my midterms...and I'm studying it up! But I figured I would at least enjoy some of this, if at all possible! So I'm hanging out at Jumpin Juice & Java, enjoying a smoothie, a delicious veggie wrap, and wi-fi! Hopefully I won't get too distracted, but that will be easier said than done that's for sure! I think I need to get another shot of espresso before I go on much longer, I'm already starting to fall asleep with all the reading I'm doing. Soon this will be over though, and I'll be on SPRING BREAK!!! YAY!!! I already have a few plans for break, but nothing too much so I can actually have time just to relax, which is much needed! I should probably get back to studying...

Taking the plunge!?!?!

So I've been thinking about skydiving for a while now...

My thought...to skydive as my graduation present to myself from MT school.

So, I've been looking at a few places, talking to a friend who has done this many times before, and has an in on the whole thing as well. Anyway, so I'm looking at jumping this April/May at Skydive Chicago! I'm planning on getting a video of the jump, and I'm hoping that some friends & family would be able to either join me in the jump, or at least come to watch and support me...even if this may seem a little crazy to some people! So, if you'd like to join me let me know so I can schedule accordingly! Oh I can't wait! I'm so excited, just talking about it! WOOT WOOT!

I'm turning into a girl!

Oh, I love so much getting my hair cut & styled! It's not even the end product that I love so much (although, usually I love that too!), but getting my hair washed, it's one of those simple pleasures.

So today I went to my hair stylist, and as always, it looks amazing! I was good though, I even took some of my homework to work on while waiting for my highlights to take. I so did not want to be reading, especially class work, but better to get it done while I'm sitting around, then not to get it done at all!

Also, I got my lia sophia jewelry today! I love it! I haven't worn all of it yet, I mean it's only the first day people! Give it a little while, they'll all come out at some point! All right, I just thought I'd tell you my fun day that I had! Over and out!

SWEET!

I know it's been a while since I last posted, but you'll get over it, and I'll post something intriguing so you'll come back again anyway! Okay, so I have to tell you some really exciting things that have been going on! I pre-ordered Dave Barnes "You, Me & The World", as should you! (To make it nice and easy for you, I even added a link on the sidebar to take you directly there!) Anyway, I've been anticipating this album for a while now because he played some of the new songs at a concert that I went to in October of last year. As always, simply amazing. Also, I received an e-mail from the apartment complex that I applied for when I move back to KC, and...I'm on the wait list for a specific style of apartments available! Being that I'm not moving in until July, all should be good! I'm very excited! Then yesterday, I received an e-mail from my admissions advisor at Cleveland Chiropractic College (yes, it's in KC, not OH) asking me if I would write a little bit about me, and my experience so far with CCC, and why I decided CCC over other DC schools! What an honor! I can't even explain how excited I was when I read the e-mail! I told one of my co-workers right away because I was so ecstatic! This little bio/story is going to go on a blog of some sort for CCC, crazy! Who knows what the future holds...but I'm going to venture a guess and say big things! Let's see, what else....oh, I only have a week until my spring break starts....YAY! I'll head down to KC to hang out with friends, and get a few things with school sorted out a little further as well as with my apartment complex too. I'm pretty sure that's all that's really of any pressing matter, or anything that is really worth telling about for now. Until next time...

Fantastic weekend!

Saturday I went to the gym to help a friend start a great workout! After that I made amazing, oh so good, yummy delicious french toast! Yes, that's right, it really does need that big of an intro! Then it was time to go to the early service at church, which was absolutely amazing. If you didn't get a chance to go, you can watch it here. Dr. Bob did such an incredible job, and it really couldn't have been better timing. After church a few friends and I went to see 27 Dresses, which was such a great movie! I highly recommend it, I'll probably end up owning once it comes out.

Today I get to catch up on my homework, boo, and do laundry. Mostly though I get to just hang out and relax which I really haven't done in a while. I even made a wonderful breakfast with coffee to start of my wonderful day! In the next couple days I get to start getting everything ready for my move back to KC. I also get to renew my drivers license, which I'm excited about because the picture that I have right now is terrible, so hopefully this one will turn out better!

This coming Friday & Saturday Evita is coming to town, so I got called to work the load in/out for the show! Very exciting because this means that I'll get a little bit of an extra cash flow before I go on my spring break! Oh, I can't wait for break! I'll be driving back down to KC for the week to catch up with friends, as well as get a few more things in order and such. I can't wait! I really love it down there, which I never thought I would say...I never thought I would go there on my breaks that's for sure! Well, over and out!

AMAZING!

As many of you know my parents are AMAZING! This isn't something new, but I have to explain just how amazing they are!

Today I was getting up crazy early to go to the gym before heading off to class. My dad was already up because he had to go to work today, and offered to go start my car for me! Not only did he start my car, but he also cleaned off the inches of snow that had piled up from the night! How wonderful! Then my mom told me last night to call her on my way home from the gym so she could get up and make me breakfast! So she made both my sister and I breakfast before heading off to class. Now if you know her you know that breakfast isn't just cereal if she's making it! So she made eggs & toast, and coffee too! Seriously, how amazing are they! Over and out!

Training again!

Well, it's time for me to start training for another half marathon! I'm going to set some serious goals for each week that will be difficult, but not impossible for me to reach each week. I'll be posting every week on my training blog if you would like to see how things are going. As for initial goals that I'm already setting for myself: working out at 5:30am every Monday- Thursday & 7am Friday-Sunday; eating no red meat, and only eating white meat on the weekends, yes that means vegetarian for the weekdays! These are going to be huge in the long run if I really stick to it. The first couple weeks are going to be especially hard getting up at 5:15, but I know that I have to do it then, otherwise it's very likely that I won't really work out when I actually go and do it in the evening. I will not only be running and doing other cardio type workouts, but complete core work outs as well. Most runners try to get a little bit of arm stuff into their workout, but I'm going to try and step it up even more. If all goes as planned, my goal should be reached! I'm shooting for 1:55:00; That would be taking eight minutes off from my last sunburst half. I'm really hoping for closer to 1:50:00, but we'll see how the training goes, and adjust accordingly. So for all of you out there who are training, good luck, and let me know how its going for you! It's always good to hear the progress from other runners! Over and out!

A short update...

  • My trip to KC was awesome; short, but awesome! Miss it already!
  • Will be moving back to KC sooner than first expected. End of June instead of end of July.
  • Found an apartment that I think will be great for me out there; very close to everything I need, in my price range, and they feel really inviting.
  • I've been able to have some really wonderful conversations with a few friends of mine, and have really come away from them with a new appreciation for what we had talked about.
  • Classes so far are, well they're going. I'm already counting down the days until I'm done with the semester! Hehe!
  • I've successfully learned how to put make up on, thanks to a wonderful friend of mine having the patience to help me out!
  • I got a new pair of glasses, which I really like, but my permanent pair won't be in for another couple weeks. Until then, though I get a pair, just in a different color. Still very cute!
  • I'm planning on starting my crazy training schedule for my half marathon coming up at the end of May. I'm planning on being at the gym by 5:30 in the morning to be able to get in a full workout before work/class. I'm sure the first few days, or for that matter weeks, will be a pain, but it will be so worth it when I cross that finish line!

Okay, well there's a short update on a lot that's been going on in the past week. Over and out!

Back to the grind...

Today I started taking classes again at IUSB, and had an eight o’clock class to begin. Well when I got up, I was already running a little bit later than what I had hoped. I guess the rain put me in a coma state! Anyway, so I got up, got ready and then went upstairs to maybe catch a little bit to eat before heading off to class. I walk into the kitchen and I see my little coffee pot sitting out, which wasn’t there last night when I went to bed; the frying pan with spatula set on the stove ready for me to cook up an egg, and some amazing cappuccino chocolate chip muffins! Yes, my mom is AMAZING! She made the muffins last night which I knew about, but the other stuff was a complete surprise! Do I have the best mom or what!? Maybe she’s trying to keep me home a little longer than planned!

So on to IUSB I went, thinking that because I was running a little later than what I had wanted that parking was really going to be terrible. Well, I pull in and it’s almost empty! Granted it was about 7:40 when I pulled in but I couldn’t believe how empty it was! Normally it is like a lottery draw on whether or not you can manage to find a parking spot. Stalking someone for their parking spot is key! But it looks like because of the time that I’ll be getting here that I shouldn’t have much of a problem, which is nice.

So far, my math class will be a breeze, my history class is going to kick my butt, and my english class is going to be just plain boring! To end the day I have stats, which we'll see how that goes, but I'm just working my way through these classes to get to where I really want to be going, so I'll deal with it for a couple months. The only good thing about my english class...no final! Sweet! I'll be doing a ton of writing between my history and english classes, ugh! Okay well I guess being that I have an hour and a half before my last class, I should eat a little something, and maybe get some stuff done. Over and out!

A few thoughts...

Some random thoughts for the evening....

~ I LOVE hanging out with my girlfriends!

~ One of the greatest feelings in the world is feeling appreciated by someone...feeling your worth!

~ I LOVE sending random cards to my friends...Snail mail is GREAT!

~ Some of the most meaningful words have been said to me from some unexpected people.

~ Saying, "Thank you!" really goes a long way!

I guess really this post isn't as random as I thought....Gratitude is a huge thing, and can be done so easily, and without much effort at all, but it makes a ginormous difference to the person on the other end. Pass on the gratitude...say, "thank you", even in the little things! Over and out!
